On October 20 – 21, 2009, the Food & Drug Administration held a UDI (Unique Device Identification) conference in Orlando, Florida for medical device manufacturers, suppliers and hospitals to educate them on the UDI ruling passed into law in 2007. This meeting set the stage for the FDA to issue a proposed ruling by the end of year 2009 and then to release the ruling in 2010 for medical device companies to comply.
The FDA UDI Rule states that every medical device manufactured in the USA will carry its own single identification other than a catalog number, lot number or serial number from the point of manufacture through distribution to the point of sale, and it must be consistent, unambiguous, standardized (HIBCC and/or GS1), and globally harmonized. Are you, as a Medical Device Manufacturer, Hospital or Supplier, ready for this ruling? If not, Solstice Medical can help. Our core competency is providing complete RFID (radio frequency identification) system solutions for the medical industry utilizing our knowledge, experience, capabilities and innovation. Why not give us a call and see how we can partner with you to address your needs.

Solstice Medical has developed an automated tracking and verfication system solution for CIVCO Medical Solutions - RFSuite™. Solstice Medical custom designed this new system to improve workflow and quality assurance to meet CIVCO's radiation oncology applications.
RFSuite™ utilizes RF technologies to track patients, charts, film folders, and positioning devices, as well as facilitating accessory verification on the linac table. "The ease of use provided by the CIVCO RFSuite technology will substantially improve both the efficiency and quality of the radiation treatment process," said Geoffrey Dalbow, Chief Technology Officer at CIVCO. "RFSuite will allow the care giver to focus more time on their patients and less on the technology."
The tracking software, known as RFTrak™, gives you the ability to quickly locate specific RF tagged items saving time and money. Patients are easily checked into the system by a customized RF tag which is automatically detected once a patient enters an RF-equipped room. The easy-to-use software provides a snapshot of where items or people are located in your facility in real time.
"CIVCO's vision and leadership in technology solutions for Radiation Oncology is apparent with the RFSuite™ system," said Daniel Sands, President and CEO at Solstice Medical. "I believe the results of our partnership and innovative use of RFID and software technology will provide tremendous value to caregivers by simplifying procedures and improving the quality of care for their patients."
Regardless of which record and verification system is in use, the RFSuite™ system will improve workflow in the treatment process by providing automatic detection and confirmation of all prescribed accessory devices. The software will ensure that the correct positioning, immobilization and beam modifiers (such as compensators) are being used for the correct patient for each treatment.
